A Great Start to the year in Ms. Marino's Music Classroom!

I am looking forward to playing, singing and creating music with the amazing Elementary students here at Shelburne Community School. The beginning of the year in music has been a wonderful celebration of being back in the classroom together!

In my classroom I encourage creative 'outside of the box' thinking, that inspires new ways of including every student's authentic voice and fosters the growth of unique classroom environments. Subsequently, every music class shares a unique community culture from which we grow ourselves as individuals. We are discovering how culture integrates with music around the world.  To help us with this idea, we are integrating literature and song by reading the book shown above by Rafael Lopez, "We've Got The Whole World In Our Hands".

Across my PK - 4th grade classes, we are developing basic concepts of rhythm using conversational solfege and improvisation. Individual classes are working on the following concepts:

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade -

  • Steady Beat.
  • Exploring high and low sounds with our voices.
  • Rhythmically based conversation (Question & Answer) How words set to rhythm and pitch create a story through song.

3rd & 4th Grade -

  • How we create unified beats and rhythms by listening, watching and agreeing with those around us - working together as a community!
  • Exploring high and low sounds with our voices.

Across grade levels we have enjoyed singing outside in the beautiful sunny weather!
